“Observed extensively while in Warwickshire, living in the middle of a large shoot, these were drawn from life. In this sculpture, design and observation combine to make a successful whole. It is a study of the character of the birds, of secretive hen and prime cock-pheasant. It uses the tails to form a strong diagonal emphasis and sense of poise. In the making, if the tails were inclined up or down the work became either restless or imbalanced. Designed to work as well as a centre piece or mantle sculpture.”
